Who Is KJMC-FM (89.3)?
KJMC-FM occupies the 89.3 frequency on the FM dial in Des Moines, Iowa. We are the only African-American operated urban music radio station since 1989. We are proud to say we have the largest African-American listening audience of any radio station in Central Iowa. With nearly 29 years on the air, our listeners have come to rely on us for information, education, entertainment important to their quality of life.
Vision
The vision of KJMC is to be the standard conveyor of information related to minority issues and diverse markets within the greater Polk County area. The single most important outcome is to positively strengthen the growth and knowledge base of the underserved community, of all kinds, and to promote diversity and information continuity across the listening minority community. The vision is realized by moving forward with the mission, which directs KJMC to bridge the communication gap that exists between various ethnic and cultural groups and those entities who seek to access, serve, address and/or support a diverse range of markets.
Mission
The KJMC mission is carried out across a communication framework of there basic component parts: (1) Social Services Programming; a networking opportunity to alert the various markets of available of community and state services. (2) Information Services Programming; an educational opportunity using air time to enlighten the community about a variety of topics, including current events, health trends, medical breakthroughs, controversial social issues, educational updates, financial management, understanding relationships, etc. and (3) Entertainment and Relaxation Programming; a combined opportunity offering program options that are aimed to amuse, recess, and/or revitalize the mind, body, and soul. Teaching Community of color media skills that help reinstate positive black image and training site for broadcasting.
